TRADITION AND SERVICES

The capital of the Region, Murcia, is an open and dynamic city with excellent connections to other major cities in the South-East of Spain. Its climate and the friendliness of its people make it welcoming, and this is noticeable in its bustling streets and squares like Trapería or Las Flores. Here locals and visitors alike take a stroll, stop to chat, savour delicious tapas or soak up some of the local culture by visiting historical monuments. Centuries of history and numerous civilisations have enriched the Region with their culture. Two of the most emblematic monuments include Murcia Cathedral and the Roman Theatre in Cartagena. Murcia’s fascinating past is also reflected in many of the traditional festivals which have been declared of national interest for tourists, such as the Carthaginians and Romans, Moors and Christians, Wine Horses of Caravaca or the Grape Harvest in Jumilla. Finish your historic journey through the Region with a walk through the ancient port of Cartagena, known 2000 years ago as “Cahagonova”, a visit to Lorca where handicrafts, textiles, pottery and baskets woven from esparto grass, are still made using traditional techniques, or a more religious experience in the sacred surroundings of Caravaca de la Cruz, one of the 5 Holy cities of the world.
